You do not need to subscribe to several marketing platforms before you can start improving your website. Begin with a question, collect the relevant evidence and make one useful change. This guide shows a practical workflow using Google Search Console, Ahrefs Free and educational material from BloggerJet.
This is a planning guide for 2027, checked against the sources below on 6 November 2026. Tool features and allowances may change. It is not a claim that a future Google algorithm or product launch has already happened.
A useful starting workflow
- Choose one genuine business outcome and the page that supports it.
- Use Search Console to understand Google visibility for that page.
- Investigate reproducible technical issues with a bounded site audit.
- Use BloggerJet for learning, with its Ahrefs relationship in mind.
- Improve the page, test the result and keep a dated change log.
Three resources, three different jobs
Google Search Console reports how your verified website appears in Google Search. Its performance report includes clicks, impressions, click-through rate and average position, with views such as queries, pages, countries and devices. These are Google's measurements, not a complete record of every customer journey.
Ahrefs Free offers limited permanent access to tools including Site Audit and Site Explorer for verified websites. At the review date, the published allowance includes 5,000 Site Audit crawl credits per project each month. Check the current plan before running a large crawl, especially on a directory with numerous filter URLs.
BloggerJet publishes marketing-tool articles and guides. It describes itself as a side project of Ahrefs' marketing team. Treat that relationship as useful editorial context when reading comparisons involving Ahrefs. It is a learning resource, not a separate account that submits your website to search engines.
Our suggested division of work is simple: Search Console provides a Google baseline; an audit tool helps investigate technical problems; educational articles help you understand options. A learning resource is not evidence that a particular change worked on your own site.
Start with one business outcome
Choose an outcome before opening a dashboard. A local electrician might want more relevant quote requests. A retailer might want more people to reach a product that matches their needs. A directory might want completed, genuine business registrations.
Write down the page that should support that outcome and the question the visitor brings. For example: “Can this company help with my job in my area, and how do I get a quote?” That statement gives you a useful test for the page. Does it answer the question, or does it mainly contain broad advertising claims?
Keep this example separate from measured results. You do not need to invent a case study or pretend a business has achieved a particular increase to make a tutorial practical.
Check whether Google knows the page
Use URL Inspection in the correct Search Console property. The indexed report describes Google's stored version; the live test checks the page as it is available now. These are different checks. The indexed report can also show Google's selected canonical URL.
Record the exact URL, the result and the date. If you find a problem, investigate that specific issue rather than changing every setting at once. A private account page may intentionally be excluded from search; a public service page may not be. Do not remove every noindex directive simply because an audit lists it.
A positive inspection is not a promise that the page will appear for your chosen keyword. Google's documentation makes that distinction explicit.
Read a small, relevant slice of search data
Choose a consistent reporting period and examine the page you are improving. Review the associated queries and countries rather than treating a whole-site average as the page's exact ranking. Search Console's average position is an aggregated metric, and results can differ with the searcher's context.
Here is a hypothetical decision: a cleaning service page appears for upholstery enquiries, but upholstery is barely explained on the page. First confirm the company actually offers it. Then add an accurate explanation, preparation instructions and a sensible enquiry route. If it does not offer upholstery, clarify the scope rather than attracting unsuitable requests.
The objective is a better match between the visitor's question and the real service. A percentage alone cannot tell you which promise a company should make.
Use an audit to investigate, not to chase a perfect score
Run a bounded audit of your verified website and review findings on important public pages. Ahrefs describes Site Audit as checking technical and on-page issues, and Site Explorer as reporting keywords, pages and backlinks within the free account's limits.
Prioritise issues you can reproduce. Open the reported broken link. Check the page title in the browser. Follow the navigation on a phone. Ask a developer to review changes affecting robots rules, redirects or canonical URLs before applying them site-wide.
A useful working note has four fields: the problem, the page affected, the proposed correction and the way you will test it. “Contact link opens an unrelated page; update the link and test it on mobile” is more actionable than “improve SEO score”.
Use BloggerJet without turning a comparison into a shopping list
When reading a tool comparison, identify the exact task you are trying to solve. Check what the author measured, when the article was updated and whether the vendor's current documentation confirms the feature. Remember BloggerJet's disclosed connection to Ahrefs when weighing product comparisons.
Write one learning note and one possible experiment. For example: “This article describes investigating missing topic coverage. I will check whether our existing guide explains the customer's most common follow-up question.” You do not have to subscribe to every product mentioned to apply that idea.
Do not copy another publisher's article, screenshots or conclusions and present them as your own test. Credit sources and distinguish a proposed workflow from first-hand results.
Improve one page before publishing ten more
Google's starter guidance emphasises helping search engines understand content and helping people decide whether a result is useful. It also warns that no technique automatically places a website first.
For your selected page, write a direct opening answer, remove claims you cannot support, add useful examples and give the visitor a clear next step. A photograph of the actual service can be helpful when you have permission to use it. A stock photograph should be labelled as illustration, not as evidence of customer work.
Keep the page's purpose distinct from the wider 2027 AI SEO guide. This article teaches the free-tools workflow; the wider guide explains search and AI discovery. Readers should gain something different from each.
Keep a change log and judge the outcome honestly
Record the original page, the change date and what you expect to improve. After search engines have had an opportunity to revisit it, compare equivalent periods and examine customer actions as well as search metrics. Google notes that changes may take varying amounts of time to appear and may not produce a noticeable benefit.
Our recommended review question is: “Did the change help more suitable customers understand the offer?” Include context such as seasonality, promotions or other website changes. Do not claim that an edit caused every increase that followed it.
A repeatable starting routine
In the first session, select one commercial page and record its current condition. In the second, investigate one reproducible issue. In the third, improve a missing answer or broken next step. In the final session, check the edited page on a phone and record what changed.
Repeat the process where evidence points to another problem. This is a working method, not a promised ranking timetable.
Before you call the change complete
- Record the exact page, review date and intended customer outcome.
- Distinguish Google’s indexed report from the current live test.
- Verify the reported issue before changing a setting or buying a tool.
- Use accurate service details and an accessible next step.
- Test the edited page and links on a phone.
- Compare equivalent periods and include actual customer actions.
Frequently asked questions
Is BloggerJet an alternative to Ahrefs software?
No. BloggerJet is an editorial resource associated with Ahrefs' marketing team; Ahrefs provides software tools.
Is Ahrefs Free a temporary trial?
Ahrefs describes it as limited permanent access rather than a time-limited trial. Check the current terms and feature allowances.
Does fixing an audit issue guarantee first place?
No. Use the fix to solve a genuine problem and measure the result; Google does not offer an automatic route to first place.
Should I copy this workflow to every domain?
Keep the evidence, access permissions and changes separate for each site. A UK service site and an international directory can have different audiences and technical constraints.
