Shower Installation Cost UK: Fitting Prices & Quote Guide

Housekeep’s May 2026 guide lists electric shower labour at £150–£300 outside London and £180–£360 in London, including VAT. Its mixer shower labour references are £225–£450 outside London and £270–£540 in London, including VAT.

These are that provider’s published guide ranges for labour. They do not establish the cost of your unit, a new electrical circuit, a shower tray, screen or complete room finishing. Ask for a quotation based on the actual model, services and work you need.

Keep the unit specification and location consistent when comparing offers. A published fitting range is an opening reference for a conversation, not evidence that an installer can complete your proposed job for that amount.

Triton says its replacement service is subject to suitability checks and installer assessment. Its electric-shower checklist covers RCD protection, electrical and water isolation, a matching kW rating and a suitable surface; its engineers only perform that replacement installation when the new and existing kW ratings match.

Those are conditions for Triton’s service, not a rule that every replacement must use the same rating. Have a qualified installer assess the chosen model and any required changes. A higher rating should not be treated as an automatic upgrade that the existing supply can accommodate.

Give the installer the existing model reference and the replacement you are considering. Ask them to confirm compatibility and quote for any additional work before you order. Leave inspection of internal electrical connections to the professional carrying out the assessment.

Send the installer the manufacturer’s model reference and installation instructions, alongside details of your existing shower and hot-water system. Ask whether the equipment is suitable for the available supplies and pressure, and whether a site visit is needed to establish that.

For a pumped or digitally controlled system, include all proposed components in the brief. Request an explanation of where equipment will be placed, how it can be serviced and which plumbing or electrical tasks are included. Do not compare a valve swap with a quotation for additional equipment and new service routes.

For a new shower area, list the tray or floor arrangement, waste connection, screen, wall finish and any work to the existing room. Ask the contractor to identify surface preparation, waterproofing, tiling, sealing and making good in the quotation.

Agree who checks measurements and product compatibility before purchase. For a bath-to-shower conversion, request the removal and disposal scope and a description of any floor, wall or service changes. A shower-unit labour reference does not price these tasks.

Where several trades are involved, record who handles each stage and who coordinates the work. Ask when the shower will be ready for use, what must be completed before the installer arrives and how changes will affect the timetable.

Planning Portal’s domestic electrical guidance for England and Wales lists a new shower circuit among notifiable jobs. It recommends an installer registered with a competent person scheme and explains the approval route when notifiable work is done by someone who is not registered.

Ask the electrician to confirm what applies to your proposed work and which testing, certification and building regulations documents they will provide. Do not assume a straightforward unit replacement and a new circuit follow the same notification route. For work elsewhere in the UK, use the relevant national and local guidance.

Agree who handles any required notification or building control arrangements before work starts. Keep those responsibilities and any associated costs in the quotation.

Ask for the final payable total including applicable VAT and identify whether it is a fixed quotation or an estimate. For a customer-supplied unit, include your own purchase and delivery costs in the project budget, but do not add them again to a package that already supplies it.

Mark each item as included, separately priced, provisional or excluded. Confirm how additional work discovered during assessment or removal will be priced and authorised. Keep a reserve for unresolved work separate from the agreed package.

Please assess compatibility and list included plumbing, electrical work, removal, tray or screen work, waterproofing, finishing, testing and documents. Confirm the total including applicable VAT, exclusions, provisional costs and appointment arrangements.

Send the same brief, photographs and product information to each provider. Ask whether an assessment visit costs extra, how long the quotation remains valid and who deals with product or workmanship problems. Keep the agreed scope with any revised offer.
